SHAFAQNA Exclusive: Egyptian Shia Muslims asked for their religion to be recognised in the new constitution

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) – Shia Muslims in Egypt announced that their rights must be recognised in the new constitution the same as others like Christians and Jews. The Shia Muslims submitted their requests to the government.  As part of their requests they asked for the Shia school of thought to be recognised as a religion of Islam. Shia Muslims reminded the government that they have always lived in the country and the Ja’afari religion has been recognised by the Al-Azhar and until recently the Shia Fiqh has been taught in Al-Azhar. The Shia Muslims have also asked to be allowed to build their own Mosques and be allowed to celebrate their religious occasions.
