SHAFAQNA Exclusive: Extremism and tribalism stems from narrow-mindedness says the Iraqi ambassador to Lebanon

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) – In an exclusive interview with Shafaqna, the Iraqi ambassador to Lebanon, Omar Barzangi stressed the need for all Muslims to consider Imam Ali (AS) as the point of agreement between themselves. He said the reason for this is due to the fact that all Muslims realise the lofty position of Imam Ali (AS) and acknowledge the two narrations from the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) which say I am the city of knowledge and Ali (AS) is the entrance to this city and also the other narration which says Ali (AS) to me is like Aaron to Moses (AS).

The ambassador stressed the need to fight extremism and tribalism through practical plans which involve youths and said we need young people with vision who do not accept extremism and tribalism but instead try to establish friendship with others. Mr Barzangi added that all the time that I have been in Lebanon; I have always considered all groups and ethnic minorities such as Shias, Sunnis, Christians, Druze and others as part of one nation. In his final remarks, the Iraqi ambassador said, the existence of various races in Iraq is like a big sea and all our learned people as well having their own religious and national teachings, learned from others. He mentioned that there is no problem for Iraqis entering Lebanon and they can obtain visas easily.
