SHAFAQNA Exclusive: Shia religious authorities answer the question regarding character assassination

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) – Shafaqna asked Shia religious authorities regarding character assassination of individuals in media and elsewhere and how it can be rectified. The answers are given below.

The Grand Ayatollah Fayyaz: It is Haram (forbidden), it is accusation and it is a sin. The responsibility lies on the person who carries out the insult and if it is not proven, the insulter deserves hell.

The Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Saeed Hakim: It is forbidden and the insulter is responsible for it.

The Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi: Character assassination is Haram and all those who carry it out or help towards it must be punished.

The Grand Ayatollah Mossavi Ardabili: It is not allowed and those who spread it (the instigator and helpers) must reverse their acts through the same ways.

The Grand Ayatollah Safi Golpayegani: Those who spread these news committing sins and must answer their deeds to the Almighty Allah.

The Grand Ayatollah Saneie: No one is allowed to insult a respected human being as this is Haram and will cause the wrath of Allah on the instigator in this and the next world. Insult and accusation is like fighting against God. Imam Sadegh (AS) said if anyone says words for the purpose of disgracing a believer in order to isolate him/her from the society, Allah will remove the instigator from divine guardianship and instead the Satan will be his supervisor. Character assassination is like committing murder as mentioned in the holy Quran. To rectify the situation, the instigator must reverse the acts the same way as it was carried out.

The Grand Ayatollah Nouri Hamadani: It is forbidden and must be rectified.
